Locking Case Fields

    I have a user who I believe is simply typing in customer names when creating cases instead of selecting existing ones as should be the case. This seems to have the affect of creating new contacts in the system which we do not want.

    I'm wondering how I can "lock" this field to force users to only be able to select from the existing customers in the system which would come up after they type a few letters and click the lookup. I'm hoping someone has ran into this before and there is a simple box I need to tick.

    Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Daniel
    It seems like the client might be using the quick create form to create new contacts instead of searching first? You could remove their permission to create contacts if that's appropriate, or add some required field logic and duplicate detection rules to catch matches being created. Would one of those methods satisfy what you need?

    You can use the onChange event to fire off js code that would auto fill the nearest matching result.

    Or clear out the entry if there is no valid guid.
