Alphabet Bar not visible after new update

  • 1.  Alphabet Bar not visible after new update

Hi CRMUG - this is my first post in the forum. After the latest Microsoft D365 Update, our users are reporting that the alphabet bar is no longer appearing at the bottom of their contact list. Is this happening for others and is there a way to get it back? We are using D365 cloud.

    Thanks

@Jeff Hum, it's the same for me in the environment where I have enabled the new release.

However, looking at a screenshot from the release notes regarding Model-driven app improvements, there is an ABC-button in the lower left corner. That seems to have been removed since:

    Hi Jeff,

Some of our end users reported a similar issue.

    I've just finished speaking to Microsoft Support where they have advised;
    1. The removal of the `JumpBar` was by design.
    2. To re-enable the `JumpBar` for all tables in your environment, you can submit a support request, and Microsoft will do this for you.
    3. to re-enable the `JumpBar` for a single table in your environment, you can add `FCB.PcfDatasetGridShowJumpBar` as a property, on a control for the specific table.

I'm still waiting on the summary email, but can share specific steps when it becomes available.

    Hi Jeff,

Yes, we are missing it too after the Wave 2 upgrade. We opened a ticket with Microsoft and they are investigating the issue. I would suggest to open a ticket too.

I heard back from Microsoft and they confirmed that the jumpbar was turned off by default in the new wave update, however, Users can turn it back on in settings (entity by entity):

    Steps:

Go to Settings – Advanced Settings – Settings (dropdown) – Customizations – Customize the system – Entities - <select the entity you want to customize> - Controls – Add Control – Select "Power Apps Grid" and then enable the Jump bar setting.
    >> Save & Publish the changes.

Example image for Account entity settings that can be updated.

I applied Jeff's suggested fix to our Accounts entity (table) and it works on some views, but not on others. In fact, on some views, once you click a letter, the jumpbar seems to freeze, and you can't click any other letters. Is anyone else seeing this problem?

    @Scott Grimes

We noticed that the freezing occurs for views that show the Parent Account field (and therefore have the hierarchy icon at the left of the row) for our Accounts table.
If we use a view that excludes the Parent Account, then the jump bar seems to work.
Also, strangely enough, if we jump through these hoops, it works:
    1. While on the Accounts view, refresh the browser window
    2. Sort the table by Name, Z to A
    3. Sort the table by Name, A to Z
    4. Now your jump bar works.

That might not work for everyone, but it has worked in our testing.

Our production system was updated by MS over the past weekend with wave 2. I had upgraded our two sandbox instances prior to this and did see the missing jump or index bar, and some other changes to the layout of the view (circles for click entry, underlines on hyperlinks, etc.). We did not implement any of the suggestions in this topic to bring the jump bar back.  We did notice that in views where we had editable grids enabled (on a few entities) the views were NOT updated by the wave 2 update.  HOWEVER after the upgrade this past weekend the two sand box instances reverted to the prior look an feel of the view, the jump/index bar is magically back, and the production instance views look like they did before the upgrade.  We do have the lovely feature to enable users to add, remove and reorder columns. The update indicates its on in all of our orgs.
    Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, exactly the same for us.

We even prepared the users for this change.

    Then post update, no change!

Don't know if we are happy or sad about it not changing.

Mostly annoyed at the wasted effort to prep the users as the visual changes were highly noticeable in the preview.

We saw the same behavior here as well. Not sure if something happened with it or they received a lot of feedback that they were not liked.

    Good Morning,

We have seen the alphabetical bar disappears as well as the new release.   Like the other conversations, we followed the instructions to apply the Power Apps Grid control to all of our tables (entities).   This Power Apps Grid (preview) has other problems besides the freeze.  We find you cannot filter in the grid on the fields from the related table. You can add the filter but takes several steps to clear it.  Also it doesn't always filter when added.

What we found is instead of the Power Apps Grid, use the 'Read Only Grid' as the control to add.   Yes that is confusing as the default control is named almost the same 'Read-only Grid'.   But if you add the other control by default the Alphabetical bar works and the filtering works.   We changed again all the default controls for all of our used tables to that and haven't had any problems since then.

Note:  We found that the alphabetical bar is also called the jump bar and also called the index bar, depending on which control you use.

    Good Luck !!!

    Good Afternoon,

Thank you for responding.   I did go back and check our CRM.   I removed the functionality we added for 1 table leaving only the default grid.   And like Sandra, Jay and Paul, our results were the same.   The bar was there and it worked.   The additional issue with filtering on columns from related tables also now works as expected.   We haven't taken the time to revert everything back as it took 3 hours to do it the first time (2 - three hours sessions).   When I get time, I will modify everything again to restore to default.

We did not lose our index/jump/alpha bar (yet) either.
If only Microsoft had given the same consideration to removing footers.  Now, we have an extra scroll and click to access information that used to be readily available.  Ah, Progress!
