I have a question about lookup fields and I hope I can explain it well enough...

I am working on the opportunity and I add a lookup field to the account. Of course, I am doing this in sandbox in an unmanaged solution.  So when i close out of the opportunity, I notice that the account entity has been added to the solution - with all elements.  all the forms, fields, views, etc.

Is this normal behavior? I dont know why this would happen and dont think I have noticed this happening in the past.  thanks for your help!

@Laura Mortick - Just a side question: Is there a reason you added another lookup field to the Account entity? The Opportunity entity has lookup fields already to Account and Contact, and a separate lookup field of Potential Customer.

The reason for asking is if the added lookup field is necessary and you could avoid the issue you are currently experiencing.

Well, that was just an example, sorry for the confusion.  It is just odd that the entire entity with all of its components get added to the solution when I create a lookup field.  Is that the intended behavior?

    Hi Laura

Yes this is normal behavior. I haven't really thought about why but i'm guessing it is because you are creating the link on the other side as well, so it needs to update that entity and pulls through everything by default.

    thanks

    Laura,

If you add the target entity to the solution with no artifacts before adding the lookup only the updates for the lookup will be added to the solution.

Thank you so much @Wayne Wittman!  I always try to add the minimum amount of elements to a solution, to lessen my chances of an issue with the solution import.  I will definitely try this next time!  thanks, Laura
