Our audit log is getting too big, so I'm trying to pare down on the fields and entities we're auditing.  In addition, I'd like to come up with a time period to purge everything.  Maybe every six months?  Can anyone share how you handle purging your audit logs and how often you do it?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,

To help manage the audit logs, I'm going to point you to the official MS docs: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/recover-database-space-deleting-audit-logs

This gives you the nuts and bolts of how to delete the logs, but you should obviously give consideration to the why you're auditing data and how long it's useful for. Once audit logs are deleted you can't get them back, so you might want to consider exporting the audit data first to another data store (which can be done with code or SSIS + KingswaySoft if you have that knowledge in your organisation) or manual export using a tool like the XrmToolBox Audit History Extractor: https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/plugins/AuditHistoryExtractor

Exactly how often you delete the logs will depend on your organisation and how long that audit information is required (say for regulatory purposes) or useful to other users or administrators.

    Best regards,
    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew:

Actually, that's perfect!  If I can use the XRM tool to keep the extracted data for longer, then it's not as scary to pick a hard date for removal.

    Thank you!

Hi, I just wanted to mention an Xrm ToolBox plugin called MscrmTools.AuditCenter. It shows all audited entities and attributes, so then you can remove the ones you don't need to audit.

    Hi Hasan:

That is a great tool!  I've used it to clean up my entities and fields.  So much easier than doing it in CRM.
