Dynamics 365 provides rollup fields on records in related entities. Example: Count number of Open Opportunities for an Account.
However, can you rollup how many records are related to a record when it's the same entity type?
Example: You need the total number of Contacts that each Contact is related to get an idea of how big their "personal network" is.
When you go to define a rollup field, you're limited to selecting other related entities; you can't select the same entity.

Yes, this is possible. You can either set up a hierarchical relationship between contacts and then choose the Use Hierarchy option in the rollup, or if you use the standard parentcustomerid field then you can select "Contacts (Company Name)" as the related entity

Lovely! I overlooked the Hierarchy = Yes setting and that does give me exactly what I needed.
    Thank you, @Mark Carrington !
