Unexpected Error on workflow - update record function

    Hoping someone can help!
Have been working with this workflow for over a week, and just started seeing this issue yesterday:  while editing the workflow, I click on Set Properties in the Update function/step and get an Unexpected Error.  This is only happening on update function with two entities in the workflows.

The URL of the error contains:  There was a problem while trying to set value for "UClientEnableWhatsNewFilter" parameter of the control with ID  notescontrol. One of the following may have caused this exception. The property does not exist on the control or it is not public. The property is not writable. The property is not marked with the CrmControlParameter attribute.

I have "Enable "What you've missed" summary" checkbox in the Timeline control, and it is unchecked.

However, I am not able to find anything related to "enable whats new filter".  We have a feeling that it may be related to Activity Feeds, but can't put our fingers on how to resolve.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried it with the "enable what you missed" feature being enabled?  You mentioned it is unchecked.  I haven't tried to look into it yet, but "UClientEnableWhatsNewFilter" could be the behind the scenes name for "what you missed"

    Hi @Jill Vazquez~

Thank you for responding!  Yes, I did try checking that box and it didn't seem to help.  Speaking to our partners at PowerObjects, it appears this is a known issue:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/4523940/workflow-designer-fails-to-load-after-entity-form-customization. We've raised a ticket with Microsoft to trouble-shoot.

For anyone else who may encounter this issue, the really strange part is that it affects all four of the "base" entities - Accounts, Opportunities, Leads, and Contacts.  Other entities, including custom entities, do not seem to be affected.  What this means is that while editing a workflow that includes the Update function to any of the 4 base entities, the error is thrown when you click "Set Properties". We tried all of the work-arounds in the article link above, but no resolution.  Unfortunately, that means we are at a development stand-still until Microsoft remedies the issue.

When we hear back from MS on how to resolve, I will post here in case anyone else has this problem in the future.

I also ran into this error on a custom entity we had added the timeline to. I copied the form, and removed the timeline from the new form. Then I deactivated all the other 'main' forms.  I set the new one to fall back, and all security roles. This enabled me to 'create record' and set some default values on the entity when created.
Then just backed out all these changes. This did resolve the issue for us.

Sorry if I am imposing. You stated that PowerObjects was your partner. I am possibly looking at them as a partner. Would appreciate any feedback you have on them and the support you are receiving.

Update:  Dynamics CRM is apparently self-healing.  We submitted a ticket with Microsoft, and within 24 hours the issue resolved.  When we asked what was done to fix the error, we were told "nothing".  Not sure if a fix was already in a release that was coincidentally rolled out during that time period, but the issue is gone and has not resurfaced.
    Miraculous....

Thanks for your suggestions, @Jill Vazquez @Sandra Devin.  Greatly appreciate the responses and helpful tips!
