I am working with a company that uses Microsoft Dynamics as their CRM and currently have no email marketing in place (besides sending Outlook emails). They are a small team (~15 employees) with I'm guessing under 3,000 contacts and probably don't have a need/resources for super complex marketing automation. They would like something that integrates with their CRM to create different campaign lists, automate birthday emails, etc. I've surfed the forum but it seems like most people have more extensive needs so I'm not sure where to start. I've come across ClickDimensions, but it seems to have VERY mixed reviews and the support and user friendliness seems to be lacking. There is also Microsoft 365 for Marketing but since it is new, there isn't a lot of info on it that I can find. Other platforms I've come across are Act-On and dotdigital. I should also mention this is for a financial services firm so are concerned about complying with strict regulation and security.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hey Venessa,

If you want basic marketing features than the current Dynamics 365 for Sales (or the older Dynamics 2016) does provide Marketing List & Campaign options. Why don't you check it out?

    Hi Venessa,

Marketing is only for emails sent as email campaigns. You cannot use it in Email Activities.

If you want simple, there is Dynamics 365 Email Management that you can enable through Sales Insights. Check that out.

I have used Click Dimensions for years and also alternative methods before that. Full disclosure I am a partner, but in a sales and marketing role, so also a heavy user. So in this case I actually practice what I preach :).

I feel that Click Dimensions does have a bit of a learning curve, but once you learn it, it is easy to use. By learning curve I mean it is not an app where you can totally figure it out by just clicking on things. You need a little training to save yourself time and frustration. I have also used Click Dimensions support and can attest it is very good. The switch to the Unified Interface caused some problems and within 24 hours I had a new solution installed that worked. The way Click Dimensions is embedded into CRM is really nice and the analytics are great.

If you are looking for a simpler (and lower cost) option I would recommend looking at something like Constant Contact or MailChimp. In my opinion you really want something to offload the sending of emails, automated managing of unsubscribes, things like that. The process I would use for that would be to simply download my marketing list(s) to Excel and upload them to the email service. I would just download the whole list every time and then upload to Constant Contact/MailChimp/etc. where it would just add the new emails. While not integrated right into CRM you still get the open, read, click statistics which you should really have to evaluate what parts of your email are effective.

    Hi Venessa!

Full disclosure that I work there, but the emfluence Marketing Platform has a deep integration to Dynamics and a super friendly user interface. emfluence uses Dynamics internally with our integration to the emfluence Marketing Platform. I've been here for a little more than three years and absolutely love the integration (as a user) and the platform itself--in my previous life, I used both Act-On and ClickDimensions, for reference.

    Hi Venessa

Like most things with Dynamics 365, there are 20 different ways to do things.  I see other folks have posted a lot of great ideas and tools.  Another option to consider/evaluate is using a "mainstream" email service like MailChimp (or other popular online marketing tools).  If you are using Dynamics 365 Online you could easily create an connection using Power Automate.  For example, I set up a very simple link between Dynamics 365 and Mailchimp by creating a couple of flows in Power Automate and some minor customizations, it's very basic but does the job.

    Hi Vanessa,

I see you got some insights and if you are still looking for a solution, I work at and with Touchdown which is natively integrated within Dynamics. It is easy to use with plenty of options to adapt exactly to the needs of your customer. If you need something easy-to-use from the beginning with full integration, have a look at our website:

    Hej Vanessa,
I have been in the MS CRM world for many years now and I have supported several different email marketing tools. The only 100% integrated solutions are ClickDimensions and Marketing for Dynamics so far. All other solutions require some work to get data to and from CRM. In the end all the email marketing tools do more or less the same, some are more advanced at one part but lack another one.

In my current company we use ClickDimensions since years and just started with Marketing for Dynamics in one of our online environments. To early to say something about marketing for dynamics but it is very similar to Click Dimensions. ClickDimensions - I get support when needed. George is correct that it is not intuitive, but they have good tutorials and are currently updating to new UIs for the different sections what I like very much. The very positiv thing is that you have all the statistic data on the contact in CRM without extra work. You can manage Campaign Automations / Nuture flows triggered by email activities or form submissions using contact data on the decision nodes. Surveys, forms and complex flows are easy to build. But you can also easily set up a simple Email Marketing job with one marketing list sending one email.

Having written that I would suggest - if you only have 3000 customers I would give it a try and use MailChimp and see how far you get. If you depend on data within CRM than I would start looking into MS Marketing or ClickDimensions.

    Good Luck
