Timeline on dashboard not showing where posts come from

    Hi,

We're encouraging our users to use the timeline feature in Power Apps on all records to keep the communication in the context of the records instead of emails.

E.g. here I have tagged a colleague of mine on the timeline of a contact, an account, and an opportunity. However, in her timeline she can just see it as 'Post by Niels Lønberg'. It's not saying in context of which record - which makes it really muddy when there are multiple posts on your timeline.

I'm not sure if this is something that has changed with the wave 2 release - but hasn't it been possible to see where the post originate from on a user's (overall) timeline on a dashboard?

I agree I haven't seen any changes to this feature yet  on the Wave 2 release and it makes Posts on the dashboard Timeline pretty useless. Sorry I have no answer for you but I feel your pain our users liked the What's New Pane in the classic UI and I haven't figured out a good way to implement that in UCI

Hi I am having a similar issue as well, I have a user who is making posts in the Unified Interface In CRM, and the post is just showing up as a post and the content is completely empty?

@Kent Hughes I'm experiencing that as well. You have to click on the post to see the text.

I think there's so much potential in the timeline but in the current state, it is pretty useless. The Salesforce 'Chatter' I tested years ago was so much better.

Is there any update to this? We are also very disappointed that Unified Interface no longer offers the "What's New" where a person can see all posts from the accounts they own. The timeline on the dashboard only shows posts where the user is specifically tagged or the ones he created himself ... quite useless like this.

This will be fixed in the Wave 1 release that will hit your environment in May (or earlier if you want to enable it during preview).

I just noticed this today. It wasn't there when I first enabled the preview in our sandbox environment a few weeks back. Here's a screenshot from a Timeline on a dashboard where you can now see and navigate to the record:

@Niels Søgaard Lønberg the thing I was missing was the What's New Section which used to allow to see posts in a central post where the user is not linked

    the options were:
     - all posts where I am tagged
     - all posts of Record that I follow
     - all posts on My Accounts
     - all posts on My Opportunities
     - all posts on My Cases

The new timeline control if set on a dashboard includes the first two categories, and other three are not possible to get. There is no way to configure or change these settings the way it was possible with the Legacy What's New section.

I don't think that is coming soon? I didn't see anything in the current preview release or even in the whole 2020 release notes that indicates an improvement?

I really think it's difficult for Microsoft to sell these improvements as actual features, as they were in the classic interface for years, and then we lost them in unified interface. So I don't think we'll see such improvements to unified interface in any release plans.

The link back to the record was suddenly there, and I'm happy about that. Make sure that Microsoft knows about the limitations you mention above, so they can include fix it in an upcoming release.

I figured I would share a solution I found to resolve this issue, not perfectly but still reasonably well.

    1) I added a workflow that automatically creates a follow record when a new account is created for the Owner. That way, the owner automatically follows all their accounts. (careful: 5000 record limit)
    https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/microsoft-dynamics-crm-forum/233547/make-user-follows-a-record-automatically?pifragment-97030=1

    2) I created auto-posts on cases, opportunities, orders, etc. using workflows and made sure the auto-post always tags/mentions the account.
    https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/no-audience/2011/11/07/how-to-create-a-post-with-mentions-using-workflow/

Now on the Dashboard timeline, the account manager will always see all auto posts related to their account, no matter which object triggered them because they mention the account and he automatically follows all of his accounts.

Only missing point, is that there is no way for the user to only see what others did with the account. For that I created a Feature Wish

@Robert Hawke I have done something similar to that, to ensure that users automatically follow records.

I have also used Power Automate to send users an adaptive card in Teams, when certain things happen in CRM, where they need to take action. That works quite well as they can update CRM directly from Teams with adaptive cards.

There was also announced a new feature in the 2021 release wave 2 plan for Dynamics 365 yesterday that sounds interesting. It sounds like users of Dynamics 365 will get a bit more out-of-the-box in this regard:

Send automated chat notifications from Dynamics 365 to Teams

    • Use @mentions in the timeline of a record and be assured that the user will be notified automatically in their Teams chat through the Dynamics 365 Sales bot.
    • Get notifications of AI-driven insights from Dynamics 365 Sales assistant; automatically push updates of insights configured in Dynamics 365 Sales Assistant Studio key-for example, email follow-up alerts.
    • Get Teams chat notifications for the records you're following; use the follow/unfollow feature in Dynamics 365 to get automatic notifications about the updates to sales records.
    • Configure the notifications that you want to receive within Teams, where, and at what frequency.

And before that, in August, we should get a public preview model-driven app adds in-app notifications from the 2021 release wave 1. So improvements are definitely coming on this front.

Unfortunately our organization is on WebEx teams so the recent focus on all the Microsoft Teams integrations is not helping us at all. It looks really cool though.

By the way, I realized I posted the wrong link above. The feature idea for the Auto Post filter is here:
