@Niels Søgaard LønbergI figured I would share a solution I found to resolve this issue, not perfectly but still reasonably well.
1) I added a workflow that automatically creates a follow record when a new account is created for the Owner. That way, the owner automatically follows all their accounts. (careful: 5000 record limit)
https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/microsoft-dynamics-crm-forum/233547/make-user-follows-a-record-automatically?pifragment-97030=1 2) I created auto-posts on cases, opportunities, orders, etc. using workflows and made sure the auto-post always tags/mentions the account.
https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/no-audience/2011/11/07/how-to-create-a-post-with-mentions-using-workflow/Now on the Dashboard timeline, the account manager will always see all auto posts related to their account, no matter which object triggered them because they mention the account and he automatically follows all of his accounts.
Only missing point, is that there is no way for the user to only see
what others did with the account. For that I created a Feature Wish

@Robert Hawke,
I really think it's difficult for Microsoft to sell these improvements as actual features, as they were in the classic interface for years, and then we lost them in unified interface. So I don't think we'll see such improvements to unified interface in any release plans.
The link back to the record was suddenly there, and I'm happy about that. Make sure that Microsoft knows about the limitations you mention above, so they can include fix it in an upcoming release.

@Niels Søgaard Lønberg the thing I was missing was the What's New Section which used to allow to see posts in a central post where the user is not linked
the options were:
- all posts where I am tagged
- all posts of Record that I follow
- all posts on My Accounts
- all posts on My Opportunities
- all posts on My Cases
The new timeline control if set on a dashboard includes the first two categories, and other three are not possible to get. There is no way to configure or change these settings the way it was possible with the Legacy What's New section.
I don't think that is coming soon? I didn't see anything in the current preview release or even in the whole 2020 release notes that indicates an improvement?

@Robert Hawke,
This will be fixed in the Wave 1 release that will hit your environment in May (or earlier if you want to enable it during preview).
I just noticed this today. It wasn't there when I first enabled the preview in our sandbox environment a few weeks back. Here's a screenshot from a Timeline on a dashboard where you can now see and navigate to the record:

Is there any update to this? We are also very disappointed that Unified Interface no longer offers the "What's New" where a person can see all posts from the accounts they own. The timeline on the dashboard only shows posts where the user is specifically tagged or the ones he created himself ... quite useless like this.

@Kent Hughes I'm experiencing that as well. You have to click on the post to see the text.
I think there's so much potential in the timeline but in the current state, it is pretty useless. The Salesforce 'Chatter' I tested years ago was so much better.

Hi I am having a similar issue as well, I have a user who is making posts in the Unified Interface In CRM, and the post is just showing up as a post and the content is completely empty?

Hi,
We're encouraging our users to use the timeline feature in Power Apps on all records to keep the communication in the context of the records instead of emails.
E.g. here I have tagged a colleague of mine on the timeline of a contact, an account, and an opportunity. However, in her timeline she can just see it as 'Post by Niels Lønberg'. It's not saying in context of which record - which makes it really muddy when there are multiple posts on your timeline.
I'm not sure if this is something that has changed with the wave 2 release - but hasn't it been possible to see where the post originate from on a user's (overall) timeline on a dashboard?
