Migrate/Copy records from Sandbox to Production

  • 1.  Migrate/Copy records from Sandbox to Production

    We built some views that reference particular records (and the GUID of those records) and we moved the views from sandbox to production. Rather than update over 100 views, we would like to migrate these 5 records from sandbox to production so the views work.  I googled and found a way to do it, but it referenced using a power shell.  Anyone know of an easy way to do this? Thank you!  Laura

    Hei Laura, I usually use configuration migration utility for this, you can download it here as a nuget package and extract as an ordinary zip file: NuGet Gallery | Microsoft.CrmSdk.XrmTooling.ConfigurationMigration.Wpf 9.1.0.34

    You can add the entity you need and copy the fetch xml (generated from advanced find) so that you get only the records you are interested in. Here are some links that should get you started:

    I wouldn't say there are any pitfalls @Donal McCarthy, use the fetch xml as I described. Also be aware of that you have to include all the entities involved in native N:N relations (use fetch xml on both entities in relation if you want to transfer only specific records), click on the button "Validate Schema" to get warnings if any.     Hi Laura

    Can you give a bit more detail re the records causing the problem. Are they a lookup table (entity). This is a trap to be wary of.

    We use the Data Transporter from the XRMToolBox - works a treat.  Use the Filter Option (top right). Get your FetchXML from Advanced Find for the records you need.

    Be careful not to create duplicates and if you do - work out how your are going to handle them.

    i'm sure someone in your User should also be able to help you otherwise reach out here again.  Teams is good if you really help.

    Laura,
    If you are only trying to move 5 records from one environment to another with the guids, a simple OOB export/import may be all that you need.
