Excel export generates an odd file

I have 1 user who has brought to my attention the fact that when she does an excel export using Chrome it exports it in a non-excel format (see the 'Type' from the screenshots). It looks like it's an excel file, but excel says that it's corrupt. I've included two screen shots. One shows what she gets when exporting and the other is from my downloads folder on what we'd expect it to look like.

I had her test the export in another browser, which works, but she likes Chrome better. It works for me as normal and expected in Chrome. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows of some sort of setting where this might affect the file when it's exported.

This is the same issue discussed in this thread:

Solution file problem with Chrome 72

The problem needs an update from Microsoft and should hopefully be resolved soon. If you are on-prems, check out the thread above for more information from people far more talented than myself.

Looks like this is a known issue with a Chrome Update.

I've developed a Chrome plugin you can use that will resolve this automatically:

How to fix Dynamics 365 File download apostrophe bug
    Javascript for CRM remove preview
How to fix Dynamics 365 File download apostrophe bug
The Problem In Chrome 72 the way the file download process works has changed. For Dynamics users, this means that files are currently being downloaded with a ' character surrounding the files.

Hi Nick, I really wanted that to work so I could pass it along to my users, but it didn't update the filename.

Running Chrome version 72.0.3626.109 with Dynamics 8.2 on-premise, but based on the code snippet you posted it looks like the CRM version shouldn't matter. I've also tried it with Chrome asking me for the download location, as well as downloading automatically to a location. Tried in incognito mode (allowing the extensions to run there) and regular mode. No luck.

Anything else I can try? Any prerequisites you can think of?

    Hi Mike:

You're right! I accidentally published an older version with a typo in it. The new version, 1.0.2 has been uploaded to the web store and should be working.

If you want to look deeper, I have attached the source .zip file to this post and you can load it directly into your browser to verify before you make a note to distribute to your team.

What has been attached here is the same file that was uploaded to the chrome web store

Is there a delay in the Chrome store publishing the updated version? When I go there I still see v1.0.1:

Yes, it was delayed up to 60 minutes. The new version is up now and should work for the renaming.

Let me know if you run into any trouble!

There we go! Thanks, Nick. Works like a charm.

This will keep some of the more vocal can't-be-bothered-with-changing-a-filename type of users off my back  ;-)

    Have a great weekend,
