1.  Contacts not appearing in search when searching for Account name

Posted 11 days ago
I have this weird issue that just presented itself where the contacts aren't appearing in relevance search or categorized search, when searching on accounts.

For example, "ABC" has 7 contacts attached to it, but when you search "ABC" you get the account to pop up in results, but it doesn't list any contacts. It will list leads and opportunities and emails and such.

I hope this is just some silly security setting. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Just to clarify a few things here:
First, there are 2 areas to utilize search. One is in the navigation bar at the top near the Quick Create and Advanced Find icons. The other is right above a View when you have navigated to an Entity, such as Accounts.

Typically, if you are in the Account Entity and do a search in the search above the View, it will only return the Account Records. However, you have to specify the Primary Contact field to be in the fields that are searched. This is done in the View called "Quick Find View" in the "Add Find Columns"

Categorized Search is set at the Entity level in the System Settings>General tab. Relevance Search is only a checkbox that has to be checked. This is located in the same area as the Categorized Search settings.

Also, when you perform a search in the "global search" field at the top navigation and the results are displayed, there is a drop-down option to the left of the search term field. This allows you to toggle between Categorized Search and Relevance Search.

So, which type of search are you performing? Are you able to provide screen shot examples?

Brooke,
Check to see if you've unchecked the box for parentcustomerid in the Quick Find Active Contacts view / Add Find Columns.
This happens often when people try to filter customer lookups without code to just search accounts, but then the unintended consequence is that contacts don't appear in global search results.
Not sure if this is the case with you but worth a look as it sounds familiar.

Thanks @Mike Springer - that was it! I recall trying to fix another issue a while back that I had no idea would cause this trouble. I added it back and it works.
(Also, while doing this I encountered another issue. CLicking on 'Add Find Columns' would show a blank list in the pop-up window. I was in Firefox. I had to open IE for it to work, so must be a current bug)

Thanks @Aaron Back, MCP as well. In case anyone else stumbles on this, this is in reference to the global search. It affects both categorized and relevancy search. I did also make sure that Contacts is added appropriately for each search, which should be anyone's first step, because it's probably the typical issue. But if you're like me and fiddle with things without documenting it, then you probably broke it like I did!

Thanks!
