Is there a way to switch an entity ownership from organization to user/team without recreating the entity?

I don't believe that is possible. In the past if I wanted that flexibility I would create an entity as user/team and simply Hide owner on all forms and views.

Just in-case requirements change I can simply un-hide the owner.

    Hi Megan

    In a word NO

Recreate a new entity and then migrate the data – depending on relationships that will be easy or hard.

The other way is easy – you just do what Krishna says.

    Hello Megan,

There is a way to change the entity ownership by updating the XML of your solution file, but this is not supported. The steps are shown below. More information can be found on this blogpost: update entity ownership

    • You will need to create a solution containing your Entity that requires modifying ( I would include components as it makes for a much smoother import process)

    • Export your solution and store in a safe place

    • Export the same solution again

    • Find your solution and unpack the file using WinZip or something similar

    • Copy the Customization XML to the desktop

    • Open the File with either Visual Studio or you can even use Notepad

    • Follow the 3 steps below to edit the XML

    Hi Meghan,
Is there a specific reason you need to switch the entity ownership?

Yes, the entity was incorrectly created as an ownership-organization, and there is a large amount of data and customization with the entity.  We have connected the entity to queue items, but we cannot route it (assign the "worked by") because there is no "ownerid" field (which comes with ownership - user/team).

    Thank you!

Hi Megan.  I see you've posted this situation regarding the routing.  Without a major migration of the data to a new record, along with all the relationships, and customizations or the "unsupported change", create a bridge entity to use to route.  The bridge entity would have a 1 to 1 relationship with the Org owned entity.  You'd route the bridge and "drag" the org entity with the routing (in theory).
