Dynamics V9 onPrem- New Entitities

We are working on upgrading from CRM V8.0 onPrem to V9 onPrem. I am reviewing the changes and I noticed a few new entities. At the moment I am trying to understand admin_settings_entity. I can't find any documentation that explains this entity. Can someone explain it or send the link to an explanation?  I don't find adminsettingsentity Entity Reference to be very helpful.

    Thank you in advance,
    Chrys

    Chrys,

We are in the same process as you, going from 8.2 to 9.0 on-prem.  I had never noticed that entity and don't have a definitive answer for you, but my opinion.  It seems to be just some type of special system entity used by Dynamics.  The evidence that makes me think this is that the entity does not show up in the list of entities in the Advanced Find dialog list of entities.

I would be interested in the authoritative answer if you get one.  Hope that helps a little.

    Sincerely,
    Glen

Thank you for your reply. I agree, I was also thinking that it was an internal entity but wasn't sure how to use it. Gashaw gave an explanation. Currently, we are not using the Sales Hub, so I believe this privilege would not benefit us much.

Thank you again for your reply.

Used to limit user access to "Sales Hub" App, App settings area. System Administrator and System Customizer Security roles have access to this entity.
Typical end user should not have read access to this entity.

    Chrys,
We need to upgrade from 8.2 on-prem to 9 also.
What are you using to identify the changes? Are the differences laid out clearly somewhere or are you doing a side-by-side comparison yourself?

What I have done so far is just compared the default solutions to identify the different entities. I have not been able to find any documentation that lists the differences between the versions. I have also compared the security roles. I expected that with an upgrade, there would be new entities and privileges to uncover and of course there are. I put together a list of the changes that I have noticed in the security roles (see attached). Some privileges were removed, some added, some renamed. Also, there have been 2 tabs added to the security role: Missing Entities & Business Process Flows.

I don't have a complete list of new ENTITIES but just looked through and found these:

    • admin_setting_entity
    • OData v4 Data Source
    • sisconfig
    • Solution Component Data Source
    • Solution Component Summary
    REMOVED
    • Report Related Category
    • Rollup Field
    NEW COMPONENTS
    • Dialog Boxes
    • Apps
    • Custom Controls
    • Virtual Entity Data Providers
    • Virtual Entity Data Sources
Also realized that when you create a new Business Process Flow, it creates a new entity under Components of the Default Solution and the new BPF is added to Business Process Flows tab on ALL security roles; which will need to be configured for each security role.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    Chrys

It would be great if documentation like you've done were provided for us. It's time-consuming combing through everything to catch the differences.
