I monitor our CRM storage usage regularly and in mid December I noticed a large increase in a particular entity. We had not added many rows to that table, but the size increased by 50% in one day.
Long story short, I worked with Microsoft support and they identified a problem with their reindexing process and in some cases it wasn't completing as expected. The fix is being rolled out worldwide over the next few weeks.
