Create Business Process Flow at Account Type vs Entity?

  • 1.  Create Business Process Flow at Account Type vs Entity?

    Posted Apr 03, 2019 08:22 PM
    Hi,

I'm building out new business processes in CE. In our scenario, we have 2 different Account Types that will require separate business processes. From what I've read, it looks like processes only apply to an Entity, not sub-types within that entity. My question is: can I create separate business processes by Account Type? If so, how would I start?

    Thank you!

    Hillary,

From the description above, I believe you can accomplish what you need using business process flow branching.

For example, you could have a very general first step for both processes, and then branch off to two different business process flows based on the Account Type.

Microsoft provides some examples and how to build them out in their "Enhance Business Process Flows Branching" article:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/customize/enhance-business-process-flows-branching

An additional option is to switch the BPF conditionally via workflow (see link below). That being said, I'd only use it as a last resort. Patrick's solution is less error-prone and less work in my opinion.

You are correct, business process flows apply at the entity level. I support Patrick's suggestion to use branching.

Another consideration, which I don't think is relevant to your question though, is that you can use security roles on business process flows to control which users can use which business process flows. Just thought I'd throw that in.
