Customer Engagement Virtual Entities

    Has anyone used Virtual Entities in Customer Engagement v9 to display data from D365 Finance & Operations? I'm not looking for in-depth implementation details, just trying to get a sense if this might be a good option. There are some use cases where rather than replicating data from F&O to CRM, we could just display it in CRM.

    I haven't tried it yet, but was reading about it here: Create and edit virtual entities with Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement apps

    @Andy Arndt,

    I don't know much about F&O. However, it was mentioned in the April '19 release notes you will be able to seamlessly link to Common Data Service (CDS) for Apps from Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

    It is scheduled for public preview in April. Moreover, new entity definitions were mentioned in the release notes:

    "CDM continues to expand with the release of new industry accelerators and concepts from core Dynamics 365 solutions. For example, the release of accelerators from the education and non-profit industries, as well as updates to the healthcare accelerator, have brought more than 100 new entities to the CDM model. Additionally, entity definitions from Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Marketing, Talent, and more continue to make CDM relevant to customers and partners of all sizes."

    Thanks Niels. When some colleagues reviewed CDS for CRM and F&O this past summer, they determined it wasn't ready for prime time. We'll see what this April preview looks like. Might be a good option for some of our needs.

    Hi Andy, we are implementing an integration between CRM and F&O via CDS for a client. Let me know if there are any specific questions you may have and I can gather details for you.

    Thanks.

    @Andy Arndt - You may want to check out the Data Integrator tool from Microsoft for CDS. It may not be "fully baked" until after the April 2019 release, but it's worth checking out.

    Details are here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/administrator/data-integrator
