Dynamics Outlook Add in deprecation

    Hi all

I hope someone can help provide some clarity over the Dynamics Outlook Add in and it's future as a tool.

Reading the upgrade documents for the October update to CRM for Customer Service, there is mention that the add-in is to be deprecated, however, there is also a comment stating that due to customer demand it is staying (although this is dated January 2018).  Does anyone know what the situation is?

    Many thanks

    Matt

    Hi Matthew,

I reckon, the title says it all.

    Hi Sheena

Thanks for this.  However, it does beg the question why the deprecation is still noted in the documentation!

    Kind regards

    Matt

@Matthew Vizor - My assumption would be that the Outlook client installed add-in will be eventually deprecated. If you read between the lines in the article linked in the previous post, you will see that Microsoft is investing heavily in the Dynamics 365 for Outlook app. I didn't see any mentioned of continued enhancements to the "classic" add-in.

I agree with Aaron, they probably just delayed the deprecation due to the large push back. I expect to see key features that users are missing from the new app to appear over the next few months/years and eventually the add-in will go away. Personally, I won't miss it, because all it ever did for my users was to crash Outlook and the only thing our team really used it for was email tracking. But I understand that other organizations rely on it way more than us as it provided broad functionality.
