  • 1.  How to Update Existing Word Templates

    Posted Nov 04, 2021 12:11 PM
    Hey everyone!
I'm relatively new to CRM, and am having difficulty uploading existing word documents for CRM. Since the changes are minor changes, and they are for the text of the document (not the input fields), I didn't know if there was a way to edit the template while it's in CRM. Does anyone have a good resource for explaining how to do this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Melissa
Not sure how it works in newer versions. But in 2016 you have to use the original template before you uploaded it. If you don't have it anymore, no worries, you can use "Document Template Manager" from XrmToolBox. Very nice tool, use it to download the existing template, change the template and upload it again.

    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards

    Hi Melissa
You need to edit the base document first (outside of CRM) then upload it.
I keep a Master version in my system admin file of each template doc, then make changes to this copy and save it as the next version
Got to CRM\Settings\Templates\Document Templates find the "old" template and deactivate it, then upload the new one.

    Good luck

Hi Melissa, what the others have said is correct. You have to edit the document in Word, then deactivate the existing template in Dynamics and upload the new one. Not very convenient when you have a lot of templates with minor wording changes!

I do what Sophie does - I have a folder on my computer where I save the Master template files, and each time I need to make a change, I make the change to that file, save it, then deactivate the existing template in Dynamics and upload the new one.
