Microsoft has once again set a date for the deprecation of the Outlook COM add-in for Dynamics 365. This time it's October 1, 2020.

So, if you aren't using the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook, now is the time to make the switch.

    Hi @Aaron Back,

thanks for the information. We are still struggling with understanding how 'offline'-mode is supposed to work in the future. We have one environment in the cloud and there is the option to turn the offline-mode on. But I remember that Microsoft has marked the current 'offline'-mode as deprecated and that they are working on something new. I also remember that sometime in the past, there was an article describing that you can also use the offline-mode with the Dynamics-'Windows-Store'-app. But now I  can only find articles by Microsoft describing that you can only use it with Smartphones and Tablets.
Do you have any idea what Microsoft plans for the offline-mode going forward?

    Thanks, regards,
    Johannes

Johannes - I believe they are working on offline options for the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook, but I'm not sure of anything specific at this time.

I assume this is for all versions of Dynamics using the Outlook plugin? We are using D365 v8.2 on-prem with the Outlook plugin.
    Thanks.

Andrea - The article I provided a link for has this to say about on-premise:

"This announcement applies to online organizations, but we recommend our on-premise customers also take advantage of the benefits of Dynamics 365 App for Outlook and upgrade from the Outlook COM Add-in at the earliest."

However, since you are on an older version of Dynamics, this may not impact you immediately.

    Hi all
We had a series of issues with the COM-Addin for Outlook and so when I discovered that the Outlook Dynamics App was available we tested it out.  We changed users to Server Side Sync and the App was then available in the Outlook Web App - we were about to get users to uninstall the COM-Addin and switch to 'linking' from the browser when we realized that in doing the above it had added the Outlook Dynamics App to the Client too.  It works SO much better and we've had no issues at all - except that it took me half a day (with Microsoft support) to realise that you need to have the Reading Pane switched on for the App to be useable!

@Amanda Squires - The Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is also added to the Outlook mobile app. So users can link emails with a Dynamics 365 from their phones.
