Duplicates on List Members

    Hi,
    today's post about something that should not be possible - same contact twice on a marketing list ( or contact multiple times on marketing list).
    Looking at the list member entity I can see that the same contact GUID is many times on the same marketing list. Now how can that be possible:
    I am using ClickDimensions subscription management for newsletter signup. When the customer submits the subscription management form one time there is no problem. Does the customer submits the same form several times, it happens occasionally that this contact is added twice to the marketing list because the add to marketing list task is executed at the very same second. I would say something is wrong with the list member key or what ever is used to have unique list members.

    Does anyone had/have the same issue and possibly a solution - or is it just tough luck?

    Axel,

    I haven't noticed this happening in our environment with ClickDimensions, but I'll have to take a look.  I know that if you try to send emails through ClickDimensions that it has advanced duplicate send prevention.  A single email send will not allow you to send the same email to the same contact more than once.  Are you doing something else with the marketing lists?

    I would imagine that you could try to run a duplicate detection on those records and it could help you remove and/or prevent those extra entries.  Just a hunch though, but it's a thought at this point.

    Hi Jonathan,
    thank you for your thoughts. You are right the email send is no problem but customers cannot sign out from the marketing list and it is not possible to remove the contact from the list within the UI (you need to do some SQL queries and actions). I have covered how to handle the wrong contacts on marketing lists. I would like to avoid that contacts get multiple times on the marketing list.

    I actually came to the solution with the help of ClickDimensions. I have to add a script snippet to the form code that deactivates the submit button. This is of course unsupported by ClickDimensions but so far it works.

    function DisableButton() {
        document.getElementById("btnSubmit").disabled = true;
        }
        window.onbeforeunload = DisableButton;
