Adding opportunities as a party on an activity (To, CC, required attendee, optional attendee etc.)

    The timeline in Unified Interface is a great tool for our sales force. Most of the activities added from Outlook to CRM are related to opportunities. That is great, as the show up on the timeline of the opportunity, the timeline of the account as well as the timeline(s) of the contacts.

    In some cases, we have activities that relate to multiple opportunities. Since you can only relate an activity to a single record, it would be great to be able to add the other opportunities as optional attendees on appointments and BCC on emails.

    I can see that it is possible to add Accounts (and custom entities configured for activities) as parties on activities but not opportunities.

    Is that a system limitation - or something can be changed within settings? I know that the account entity is special in that regard, since it can both be companies and people. However, since it is possible for custom entities, I was wondering if it was possible to do that same thing for the out-of-the-box opportunity entity.

    @Niels Lønberg - This may have to do with the fact that Opportunities typically don't have Email Addresses. The typical entities to choose from in the Email BCC field are Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Users. Each of these entities have Email Address associated with them. This makes sense because when you create an Email from CRM, you are choosing records that will have an email address and will receive the email when sent.

    The same goes for Appointments. The records added to the "Optional" field will receive a meeting invitation via email once the Appointment is created.

    @Aaron Back, MCSE,

    Thanks for the input. It definitely makes sense - but it would be great if you could change the setting for opportunities. E.g for custom entities it is possible to check the 'Sending email' field below, and then it is possible to add the entity records as parties on activities.

    However, that does not seem to be possible on the opportunity entity.

    And I don't think it possible to tag the other opportunities in any way in a post related to the activity.
