Unlocking Leads

    Hi everyone

We use Leads for our prospects and once a lead is qualified, the Lead locks and an opportunity gets created. Standard workflow so far.
However, we have stored data fields on the Leads form that at times need to be modified later on at a diff. sales stage. The locked leads, prevents us from updating what we need to modify.

We are thinking of the following:
    - move the fields over to opportunity to get around this issue. Trouble with that is real estate on opportunity form!
    - unlock the Leads to make changes, but figure out a custom solution to bypass the standard behavior of creating an opportunity after we are done with changes...

Has anyone encountered this business need and if so, how are you addressing it?

    many thanks,

Do you need the info in a dedicated field or is it unstructured info? You can always add "notes" on a closed record?
One workaround we are using on invoices in order to keep track of whether payment reminders have been sent: A workflow reopens the invoice, adds "today's date" into the respective field and then closes the invoice again.

Thank you for sharing your workaround with invoices. Perhaps a similar workflow can do the trick with Leads. Will investigate.

One quick and easy solution to get around not being able to edit locked records, is to add the relevant fields to a personal view, add the filters that you need, and use Open In Excel Online to edit them; you may not want the majority of your users knowing anything about this method!
