Is there a way we can prevent emails from being sent to the same user twice in a campaign automation?

Alternatively, is there a way we prevent the same person from being uploaded a second time to a marketing list?

    Please advise.

    Hi Geethika,
you need to get a little creative on that task but it is possible. I assume your trigger for the campaign automation is "Added to marketinglist" and your users get added to that marketing list many times. User in your case is contact or lead and not crm user, or?
    1. One solution would be to not remove the contact or lead from that marketing list - When they are already on the list, they won't get on that list again and won't enter the campaign automation.
    2. You could use an attribute on the contact or lead that indicates that they got that email already (e.g. registration for a brand newsletter) and use that in a condition in the workflow that adds the contact / lead to the marketing list.
    3. You could also add the contact / lead to a different marketing list after they got the email and add that marketing list as suppression list to the email in the campaign automation. That way they would be excluded from any sendout.
Let me know if you have aditional questions or provide more details if my suggestions don't fit your needs.

    Hello -

I have established that simply trying to add someone to a list is what triggers the ClickDimensions Campaign Automation, it doesn't wait to see if is actually added. Therefore, if a record is already on the list and someone or an automated process try's to add it to the list again, the Campaign Automation will run again.

As for the suppression list, it suppresses by GUID, not by email address so if you have duplicates in the system, it will not work. This is the same for sending out mass emails as well.

Due to these fundamental issues, we do not use Campaign Automation unless it is a net new record being added. That way we know an attempt to add a record to a list twice will never occur thereby eliminating the possibility to have it go down that path more than once.

    Hi Fara,
thank you for the heads up. I have to admit that I took an old set up as granted. I just tested my self and have to admit that the suggestion to "add to marketing list" is not an option to prevent customers from running through the campaign automation. I will need to look into our automations.
