We are having an issue previewing our fetch XMLSSRS reports using SSDT 2015. Our Dynamics is hosted online in GCC. The Connection string we are using is url/organization. We enter our credentials and we get "Cannot create a connection to data source 'CRM'. Any help will be much appreciated

    Hi Sharee

I saw a similar issue the other day and it was because of an older version of the Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension (8.x).  Once that was updated to the latest (v9.x) the problem was resolved.

That would be the first thing to check.

    Cheers

    Hi Sharee,

Could you precise if it used to work before or if it never worked?
You are having issue with previewing, I am assuming with executing reports as well?
Are you using a specific connector to Dynamics from SSDT 2015?

If it nerver worked I would ensure that SSDT 2015 (or its Dynamics connector) support TLS 1.2 and tried to update it if not.

You could also validate your connection string by creating a connection with XrmToolBox with it, just to be sure there is no issue with it or the user you are using.

@Fabien Bernard: It works for 1 developer, but not the rest of us. You are correct when we preview the report. We enter our credentials and we are denied access. We are using a datasource string using Type: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fetch

Could you ask this developer to try to use his credentials on your machine?
If this works, it would mean that other users have issue with their credentials or profile (licence, security role)
If it doesn't, that would mean issue is on the machine and I would try to upgrade each involved component to match the ones that are working on developer machine (FetchXml Authoring extension, SSDT, Windows Identity, ...)

The developer who can access on her computer: We tried all our accounts and we are successful...

The developer who cannot access from his computer: We tried and non of our accounts can access...

    Sharee,
It could be laptop-related. Check this post - https://fixrm.wordpress.com/2019/06/12/errors-with-xrm-tooling-after-windows-10-may-update/ it's related to XrmToolbox but it could also cause issues you experience.

    Sharee,
As others said your issue could be related to TLS1.2 enforced. There are 2 ways of solving your issue:
    1. Installation of latest FetchXml Authoring extension but I would not recommend doing it because it has issues. Main reason why I don't use it - it doesn't return "Formatted Values" for fields like optionsets, currencies, lookups, e.t.c. that leads to point 2 that I use in my work.
    2. I use following trick with fiddler to work around TLS1.2 issue - https://butenko.pro/2018/02/14/microsoft-dynamics-365-v9-0-how-to-fix-connectivity-issues-between-ssdt-report-authoring-extension-and-dynamics-365/

Here is what resolved the issue:

Step 1: During the installation of SSDT and CRM Extensions, you will need to install on the C drive instead of the user level. We have a strict policy that we have to install with our Admin accounts so during the install we were just selecting next instead of choosing the C drive.

Step 2: We had to  access Turn Windows features on or off under Programs and Features
                1. Check all components under .Net Framework 4.7 Advanced Services
                2. Under Internet Information Services...World Wide Web Services...Application Development Features...Turn on all but 3.5 and ASP

    Thanks for the Help
