I am looking for guidance - does anyone use this option? I don't know if I am doing something wrong on my end (its always worked before) or if there is an issue I need MS to assist with. I tried to update a field on my account form. I ran a view and it let me upload and open in excel online but now I need to remove all data in this specific field (delete for all) and I try to delete and then save back to CRM and I keep getting errors!

I don't know HOW or why since I am literally just removing data from a field.
I have large records- so unsure if this is an issue- I might need to break it up but no matter what I try I keep getting errors.
I always use this option to update records here and there and never have issues. yet now I can't get it to work.

    thanks

What type of column is it?
Some columns are not nullable via import.
You should be able to do this with Bulk Data Updater in Xrm Tool Box - it has a 'Set null' option.

@Donal McCarthy I'm not sure what you mean by what type of column is it? sorry.
I just created a text box called unique customer id. I then created a personal view and added that column in.
I tried to populate that column for all active accounts A1, A2..... etc... most took but then a few thousand never populated. I did it all via Excel online. I tried the XRM bulk data rouote first but it kept erroring off and wouldnt let me update so then I had to do it manually.
Now I am trying to ONLY remove all these populated with data in this field and clear it out since I have to do it over again and include the missing accounts. but I cannot get it to work. It keeps erroring off and I am slowly going crazy. :)

Have you considered deleting and readding the column?

that's actually where I am getting errors at! I am trying to open my view in open to excel online and just remove anything with data in that field. yet every time I save and go back to CRM the import fails. Its soooo weird! I never had issues before. I don't know if its the size of the data? If I should do in sections but it removed only SOME of the data and errored off the rest... I have no idea why.
I have 3 unique id fields on different forms I need to do this for. So I am concerned.
I am not doing anything but removing a field so why it is erroring off saying a record cannot be updated because it already exist (whatever that error message is) I am stumped! I am not creating anything just trying to update a field by removing the values in it.

So if you are just trying to empty the field and are hitting errors, why don't you just delete the field itself?
You will have to first remove it from any forms and views that you've added it to.

I thought I was doing that when I exported to online - I actually deleted the field itself and tried to save it back and would get the errors. BUT I suppose if I thought about it I could do just that... and remove the actual field then I can just create a new field and try again.
thank you! I think I have been beating my head with this where I can no longer see the obvious! I was stuck on getting it to work in open in excel online!
