I frequently find myself being asked for analytics on the users and their activities within CRM(Dynamics 365). I haven't really had any luck finding a format we love that addresses all of our needs.

I want to see:
-  when a user logs in or out
- Last specific use by the user
- what a specific user is working on in CRM (reports, quotes, etc)
- most active users by role


I am sure there are more in-depth things that off the top of my head aren't popping up but this gets me started. I can't be the only person struggling for this basic stuff....What's working for you??

We are wanting the same thing but haven't had any luck.  We have around 3,000 users across the world within our company and have put together a pretty slick Power BI report showing which employees have access and the level of access they have.  We receive questions on "they have access but are they using the system?" and we don't have a good way to answer that question.

Organization Insights doesn't meet our needs as we need to make this usage data transparent to all end-users, management, etc.

Microsoft doesn't make it easy to get this data out of the system to make it meaningful.  Inogic has a solution called User Adoption Monitor but we haven't taken a look at that.  We were hoping to build something in house to accomplish this.

It is possible to see how often a user logs in by using the audit table, which can be accessed in Power BI. There's a blog post about how to retrieve the data here. You can also use the User Audit Viewer in XrmToolBox by if it is on a more ad hoc basis:

​Power BI would also be my best bet if you want to create a dashboard to see what the user were last working on (by looking at modified on for the entities you are interested in).

That is a great blog post Niels.  There is another here if you want to just get when users last accessed the system. In our case we wanted a bit more detail, so we built a power bi report, using the audit entity.  We can see when a user last accessed the system, [and other things] and if you pull all users you can see how many have NOT accessed the system for a period of time (ie, last 30 days).  We count access (each audit record) so we can get a sense of how busy certain users are in the system. Using the action attribute of the audit table you can identify what the user did (update, create, delete, etc.) Using powerbi you can combine the audit data across multiple CRM environments too if needed [as we did].  If you pull the entire list of users (enabled) you can also use powerbi splitters to organize the data by department, or manager, business unit, title, etc.   A highly redacted example is shown below.

This is all really great information! I was able to find some information we needed by using the Azure active directory. I think incorporating this and some of the ideas presented here will give me a comprehensive report I can actually use!
