    Hi all,

I am considering attending CRMUG SUMMIT 2018 for the first time and was wondering when would be the best time to arrive. Are there any events the weekend before leading up to SUMMIT 2018?

In the past has anyone benefited from arriving a few days prior? If so please share your thoughts it will truly be appreciated.

Also will there be any sessions geared towards configuration and customization certification?

    You will love Summit!

A couple of things that I would recommend:

    1. New Attendee Reception - looks like it is scheduled for Monday night
    2. Academy classes - these happen before the conference starts and are an additional cost, but well worth it!  Depending on the session, they are 1/2 day, 1 day, or 2 day sessions which allow you to really focus on your learnings.

During Summit, there are a number or evening networking events that are hosted by different vendors and are always great for meeting attendees, informal chatting, learning, and sharing.

Regardless of the activities you choose, I will guarantee that you will have a great time and go home with a lot of valuable information!

@Krishna Jacques - As @Diane Taylor mentioned, you will have a great experience at Summit. I have been attending since 2013. The underlying focus of the conference is "users helping users". You will meet folks from all CRM backgrounds, experience, and skill-sets. So, the networking opportunities are phenomenal.

There is a pre-conference academy (Pre-Conference Academy - CRMUG Summit) that has a course that may be specific to what you are looking for. In the Pre-Conference listings, look for "The Best of Advanced Customizations in Dynamics 365 - 2018".

Lastly, there are many evening events that will be happening during the week. So, be sure to take advantage of these opportunities to network and have fun!

@Diane Taylor and @Aaron Back, MCP,

Thank you for that information. I will be registering today :). Also the (Pre-Conference Academy) is exactly what I was looking for. I am specifically interested in these listed below. With two of these session having the same time-slot, I am new faced with a decision to make for my Sunday Schedule. Portal or Integrating? It would be nice if they were available on the October 15th as well.

    Krishna,

Welcome to Summit!!!  I think you will get a lot out of it.  The access to the experts is the best of any convention of this type I have ever attended in 35 years in the IT industry.  The entire CRMUG organization is VERY user-focused (rather that organization focused as some user groups can be).

I always forward a couple of tips to new attendees, especially if you've never been to an event like this:
    1. Wear comfortable clothing, but especially wear good walking shoes, because there will be a lot (walking, that is, not shoes).
    2. When you check in, you typically receive either a backpack or messenger bag.  Thousands of other attendees will have the exact same bag!  I always bring a different back pack to carry around so there's no chance of picking up the wrong bag or someone else accidentally picking up mine with my Surface in it.
    3. Prepare to make some new friends!

Okay, that was three, but who's counting.  Have a safe trip!

    Sincerely,
    Glen

    Krishna,

Here's another terrific option for the Pre-Conference Academy on Sunday, 8:00a - 12:00p timeslot, if this matches with your role and objectives. Enjoy Summit!

Summit is the place to be for everything CRM/D365 as well as some new tech like Powerbi and Flow all tools that are about to impact you. The interactions, experts, vendors, MVPS :) and industry connections are more than worth it. This is THE event of the year when it comes to Dynamics! Climb aboard you'll have a great time. Some good suggestions from the others as well! See you there!

I'll piggy back on everyone's recommendations and add one more of my own:

Try to stay focus on sessions that will make you better at your role. If you are an Administrator, go to sessions on the CRM Admin Track, if you are a developer, go attend sessions geared towards developers so you can improve. I think that many people make the mistake of attending sessions for topics they are not familiar with "because that way you learn about them" but if you are not familiar with something there is a big chance that you either haven't needed to learn that or you have someone else who knows that already, so attending sessions about things you don't know prevent you from attending sessions about things that will actually make you better on your role.

Here's an example: I'm delivering a session on the Top 10 Rules for the CRM Administrator, if you are a Salesperson or CSR (I.E. a Regular Dynamics 365 User), attending that session could teach you a couple of interesting things, but you might be missing out on a session that teaches you how to better extract intelligence from Dynamics or becoming an expert with Advanced Find...even if you already consider yourself an expert in Advanced Find and know nothing about Administering CRM, I would advise you to skip my session and go to the Advanced Find session instead, because learning one new thing that takes you already expert knowledge of Advanced Find to the next level is more important that learning 5 new things that will benefit your non-existent CRM Admin game. :)

    Hi All,

Id like to thank everyone for your input, I truly appreciate it. The closer we get to Summit the more excited I get.

@Gus Gonzalez great point. I will be sure to keep that in mind as I continue to build my schedule for Summit.

I'd like to give a brief summary of my role here a Rumsey Electric Company as it relates to Dynamics CRM. With the intent to gain more input and suggestions for Summit 2018.

A few years back we were on CRM 2011 on-premise and used Click Dimensions for Email Marketing. Click Dimensions (CD) was upgrading and required all their customers to have IFD configured to connect better with their customers' Organizations. During that same time the Dynamics CRM Administrator left Rumsey and I volunteered to configured IFD (IFD 2.0) and upgraded CD solution to the newest version. I knew little about CRM at the time but manged to pull it off flawlessly.

At that point I became the Dynamics CRM Administrator / Developer here at Rumey Electric while still maintaining my daily SharePoint duties. Later that year one of our subsidiary company was migrating to Dynamics DL. Since they were using Dynamics CRM as well and was interested in using PSA the MS Partner recommended we upgrade to Dynamics CRM 2016 and configure IFD before moving forward with PAS Dynamics CRM 2016 / Dynamics SL integration. It was Supper Bowl weekend and I was able to complete the migration 2011 - 2013 - 2015 - then finally 2016. I finished just in time to see Cold-play perform :-). It was a great feeling and huge accomplishment to me.

Basically from then on I fell in love with Administering, customizing and developing Dynamics CRM 2016. With all that said I get your point on attending sessions as it relates to your role yet its still a bit difficult for me to choose what sessions to attend since everything CRM related here is my responsibility. Creating Plugins forms BPF, Forms scripting, Dashboards, custom charting to basic user training and user adoption initiatives. I do it all. I'd like to focus more on Development that's why I am attending the Integrating 3rd part applications Pre-Academy session. Yet I'd still like to see ways to keep my users engaged.

At the end of it all If I could Attend every session I would but we all know that is impossible. If anyone out their identify based on my responsibilities I'd like to hear from you.

How do you navigate your Summit sessions scheduling and making a decisions on what to attend.  Are their any Certification sessions for Customization and Configuration or recommended resources?

I'd simply like to maximize on this opportunity and get everything out of this experience as possible.

    Regards,

One final note, don't stress if you have two or more concurrent sessions that you want to see.  The best part about Summit is that all content will be available via the app for all conference attendees.  When I make my schedule, I will actually pick every session I am interested in, regardless of time.  Then I just decide the moments before which session to attend if there are two at the same time.  Having both in my schedule makes it easy to find later to see the powerpoint slides or notes.  Also, if you go with anyone else from your company, split things up and share notes.  We try to make sure we never go to the same session unless it is especially relevant.

I will be one of the chapter leaders answering questions at the New Attendee Reception so make sure you get signed up for that!  We always share a lot of information and help people to get the most out of their Summit experience!!

    @Christie Cripe,

I like that idea of packing my schedule for all sessions that interests me, then make a decision as the days progress. I did not know all sessions will be available after via an App. What is the name of the app? Does CRMUG have a mobile App? Please share.

That is good information and will sure help with making a decision while easing the stress factor. Please note this will be my first IT conference ever attended hence my reasons for asking for feedback. I'm sure it wont be my last.

I did sign up for the new attendee reception, I guess I will see you there.

Honestly I wished I had someone else to tag along, unfortunately I'll be alone. Hopefully by next Summit I could convince my managers to send others. This way we can do as you suggested and use the split up strategy.

    Hi All,
The Dynamics Communities app ( or DCI events)is working well for me. All the summit schedule is on there and allows you to start planning the session you want to attend.

    A good friday to all

Great suggestion Christie! I do this also, and by keeping all of the sessions "favorited", it makes it easy to retrieve the post-conference presentations for not only the sessions I attended, but also those that I missed.
