Database is Slow

I have been hearing many users complain that it's slow when they try to update our database.  Is it a storage issue?  We are web based.  Do you think too many workflows would cause the issue?  I know that we have issues with our Site Map which I'm getting fixed....but not sure if that would cause this?

Any guidance on speeding things up would be great.

    Thanks so much!

I would check these issues in the following order, from most to least likely problems (IMHO):
    1. Synchronous workflows and plugins could be an issue. You could test this (in a sandbox) by deactivating them and see if there is a difference in performance.
    2. Check your Settings/System Jobs to see if you have a lot of activity in there (especially failures).
    3. Data duplication rules
    4. JavaScript embedded in your form
    5. Is Auditing turned on? If yes, that will slow your system down.
    6. External apps, Flows or Logic Apps that might add load to your database
    7. If you have a lot of Asynchronous workflows running, then that will add workload to your database.
    8. I don't believe it is a storage issue...unless you uploading large attachments into CRM?
Those are my top items. I expanded on this list in my blog:
