Unified Interface Transition

    Hello!

Does anyone know if there is a way to check how long the actual transition process takes?  I've transitioned my dev and test environments but am wondering how long they took so we know what to expect with production.  I am assuming the environment will be unavailable during some of the time but maybe not?

    Thanks,
    Jill

We just used the transition service two weekends ago (November 6th).  It was scheduled for Friday, November 6th and I got the "We're done" notification on Sunday.  But there are instructions to migrate manually as well (basically it's just flipping the switch in the Environment->Behavior to "Use Unified Interface Only").  We also converted to full Model-Driven app only by flipping the other switch "Show legacy app to everyone, not just admins".  From what I've read, the "Use Unified Interface Only" switch is the only thing the transition service flips.

I had a large rollout and a lot of testing to do post conversion, so I just flipped the switches myself on Friday and set the environment to Admin only while I made the changes.  There was no time during the weekend that I noticed the site was unavailable.  I didn't see any indication of additional changes on Sunday when I got the "We're done" email.

    Hope that helps!

I agree with @Bryan McMullan, I don't think there is any back-end process that needs time to complete, it's simply a matter of flipping the switch to convert the UI. We actually ran several of our power users and early adopters using the model driven app before we flipped the switch for the full org.   If I recall correctly, there is also a window of time (3-5 days?) when you can 'un-flip' the switch and back out.

Thanks @Bryan McMullan and @Jeff Woodard - I wasn't planning on manually flipping the switch and will let Microsoft take care of the transition as scheduled (as I did with my 2 other environments) but it sounds like what you are telling me is that there really shouldn't be a noticeable period of downtime since it is just a flip of a switch rather than a more traditional-like installing of an upgrade that might take several minutes or hours.
