Regarding field on Notes in new UUI

I'm feeling a little like I'm in the twilight zone - or - I missing something super obvious and will feel like an idiot.  Where it the Regarding field on the Notes form in the new UUI?

In the classic interface, we see the Regarding field where we can link up to the record where the note was added but I don't see that on the UUI note.  Even when I went into the form customization, the field isn't on the form - I was hoping maybe it was just hidden.  It's not available to add to the form and if you look at the field dependencies, it doesn't show it being used on a form.

The Note (aka annotation) entity has been pretty tightly locked down to prevent modification, and it appears that you are seeing yet another stage in the evolution of how that entity is evolving into a truly hidden system feature. My guess is that MS feels that users should not be tempted to change that field, so why show it at all?

Thanks for your feedback.  We discovered this because a user was using the relevance search and searching within notes for key terms.  When she found a note she needed and opened it, she has no way to navigate from that note to the regarding Account or Contact.....plus it doesn't look a nice as it did in the classic UI.

I could add Notes to the site map and teach her to use the filter to search within note text and include the column for regarding.....but wait....I just tested that and we can no longer see the regarding column in views in classic or new UIs!!

Does anyone else think this is problematic?

I searched the Microsoft Ideas site and only found the below linked idea with just 6 votes (now 7) so hopefully it will get more votes and get considered.

Just a little update on this topic......I logged a ticket with Microsoft just hoping to get a little attention to this matter.  I had a screen share with a support rep this morning and stepped her through using relevance search to search for keywords in notes and showed how the regarding field is present when you open one of those search result notes in the classic interface and how it is missing from the form in the new UI to illustrate the impact of the missing functionality.  I also pointed out our inability to display the regarding field in views.

She suggested adding the issue to the ideas site, but it is already there (link below)....although it doesn't have many votes so I encourage all of you to vote it up.

She also said it could be helpful if people blogged about it - so if there are any influential bloggers out there who care to blog  about any impact the missing regarding field could have on current or future projects, it might get some attention.

Lastly, since this was done by Microsoft intentionally, I would love to know if anyone has any insight into why they might have thought this was a good idea - or any thoughts on how we can minimize the impact to end users....other than telling them not to use notes.

    Thanks Jill!

I just voted and added a comment. I did a search to see if I was crazy and here's your thread! At this point now I want to look into removing notes from search. I want to discourage users from making notes.
