Create Task Email Notification From Creator of Task Record

I cannot seem to find a way to generate an email when a task is created that alerts the owner and sends the email from the creators email client.  I keep running into the below error message when the workflow is triggered.

"You cannot send email as the selected user" error occurs when attempting to send email as another user.

However, if I assign the from as a CRM user such as myself or another user with the system admin privileges the workflow works fine.  But the email is always fired from that user's email which looks confusing to the recipient.

The attached shows how I have structured my email message and workflow.  Is there another option setting I should be checking or should I be configuring the workflow or email differently?

Kyle, One thing that comes to mind immediately is that you should make sure that whoever is sending the email has permission to send emails as another user. Here is how you can check that to verify.

    1. Log into Microsoft Dynamics CRM with a user that has the System Administrator role.

    2. Navigate to Settings and then access Security.

    3. Click Security Roles.

    4. Open the security role assigned to the user who is encountering the error.

    5. Click the Business Management tab.

    6. Verify the user has the "Send Email as Another User" privilege.

NOTE: The "Send Email as Another User" privilege has different levels of depth. A user needs sufficient depth in this privilege to match the user who they are trying to send as. For example: If you are trying to send as a user that is in a different Business Unit within CRM, having Business Unit level access for this privilege would not be sufficient as it would only allow you to send as other users in your same business unit.

    7. Click Save.

Thanks Nicholas.  But that still didn't work.  The user that is attempting to use the workflow has the security permissions mentioned above.  The creator of the workflow and the user are in different business units, but I have it set to organization.  Just seems strange to me that it wouldn't work like I expected.

I'm curious as well. I believe this is the problem I had years ago when I tried to do the same thing. I gave up and created a generic sys admin so all emails would come from that account, and at least people knew to keep an eye out for that one. I included info inside the email as to who actually created the task.

Another thing you will want to check is on the user's Personalization Settings, go to the Email tab and make sure the box is checked to allow users to send email on their behalf.  There is a tool in the XrmToolBox you can use to set this in bulk for all of your users if needed.
