@Russ Morris - If you are evaluating 9.0 online, then I would suggest you look into utilizing the Dynamics 365 apps. Within each app, you can specify which Views will be part of the main System Views options in the drop-down. The others can still be used for sub-grid purposes as you mentioned.
How this is done is within the new App Designer. You would select an entity within the App Designer, then select the Views tile. Then uncheck all the View you don't want included.
Within the 9.0 online:
- Navigate to https://make.powerapps.com
- Select Apps on the left-hand side
- Click the 3 dots next to the app name and select "Edit".
- This will open the App Designer
- Select the "View" tile next the entity you need to update.
- Uncheck the "All" option and then put a checkmark next to the View you want to have visible.
Before updating:

Subject: Is it possible to hide views in main selector?
We have various views that are very specific to sub grid needs on certain records. Unfortunately this clutters up other view selectors, I'm sure you all know this pain.
Does anyone know of a way that we can have a view show up for a sub grid on a record, but not be available in any other view selectors?
Previously there was a bug / work around where you could put a view in the sub grid then deactivate the view and it would still show up on the form but be hidden in any other view selector. As we are testing out our 8.2 on premise to 9.0 online migration this doesn't seem to be the case any more.
