  • 1.  Activating the integrated business card scanner in Dynamics 365

    Hi All,
    Hoping someone will be able to help me with getting the new business card scanner activated or know of any good user guides? I've added the business card field to the quick create contact form, and I've got the AI business build card control turned on for Phone, Tablet and Computer, and I've maped the business card fields with the corresponding fields in CRM, however, I can't get the feature to appear when I try and quick add a contact? I'm on the unified interface and I have the common data service role assigned. I feel like there must be something really obvious that I'm missing.

    Any ideas?

    Hi @Jessica Kuznia, once we'd updated to 2019 release wave 2, the Scan Business Card button became available when performing a Quick Create for Contacts and Leads via the Mobile app and Desktop browser experience.

    The 2nd link points you to the licensing guide.  Within the guide there is a table which shows that the business card scanner is only for Sales Enterprise licences which is what we have.  It sounds like you may have Sales Professional licence if you can't see the Scan Business Card button.  Can you check which Sales licence you have?

    Hi Mark,
    Thank you for the reply. I think you've cracked it, we are on the Sales Enterprise plan and the business card scanner button have appeared on our Quick Create forms in PowerApps but not front end, however, we haven't done the release wave 2 yet so I'm guessing that's what's missing.

    No problem @Jessica Kuznia.  I didn't see the Scan Business Card button prior to the release wave 2 update so I'd schedule that.  The opt in schedule shows that most regions have already been done so it may be worth checking if you should have already been enabled or whether your date is in the future.  From memory the update takes between 30-60 minutes per environment.

    @Jessica Kuznia and @Mark Aston Do either of you know if there are any other pieces to consider when we decide to opt in? Does the Sales CE licensing cover it all or will we need any other licensing? Also, to note, we have 25K seats currently so I'm not sure if that is something to take into account.

    Hi @Ami Tetrault, are you specifically interested in the Business Card Scanner feature or asking more generally across Dynamics Customer Engagement?  What version of Dynamics are you currently on?

    Sorry @Mark Aston, yes the new feature being released in Wave 2. We are currently on Version 1710 (9.1.0.9439) online.

    No problem @Ami Tetrault, we are still using the Classic UI and the only change I spotted with Wave ​2 was the additional Files section.  See one of my previous threads for more details.

    Check the Wave 2 features list If you are on the Unified Interface or thinking of transitioning.  One feature I have looked at is the Customization of Opportunity Close dialog box.  I wasn't able to customize the dialog box but when I raised it with MS they said it was a known issue and deployed a fix to the sandbox environment I was testing the feature on.  They haven't said when this fix will be rolled out to other users but have said they will deploy the fix on an individual customer basis, you'll need to raise a MS Support Ticket for each environment you want the fix deployed to.

    Yes we are still using the classic UI currently too with a Q1 switch over to the new UI. Thanks for the info!

    No problem @Ami Tetrault.  The other thing to mention is the new Solution Designer experience - https://make.powerapps.com/.  I've had a little play around but not planning to move over to it yet.  I'm not aware of when this will be the default experience but I suspect it may tie in with the cut off to move to the new UI next October (scroll to the bottom of the article).
